FINANCIAL COUNSELLOR

30-38 hours per week
Wage Range: $52,846 - $57,810
(pro-rata for part time)
(salary sacrificing available)

Care Financial Counselling Service has been the main provider of financial counselling and related services in the ACT and region since 1983. We are seeking a counsellor to work with people on low to moderate incomes who are experiencing financial difficulties.

For this position we are seeking a person with:

• Diploma of Community Services -Financial Counselling (or equivalent) or a tertiary qualification in a counselling discipline.
• Communication skills of a high level.
• Ability to act as an advocate and negotiate on behalf of clients.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently, as well as to be an effective member of a small professional team
• A strong interest in consumer protection and poverty issues.
• Demonstrated interest in and capacity to undertake professional development.
• Willingness to undertake initial intensive training (up to 3 months depending on experience) in financial information/legal aspects of the work.

It is also desirable for the applicant to have:

• Work experience in the community sector
• Demonstrated high level of counselling skills
• Well developed analytical skills
• Capacity to understand broad legal concepts related to the position
