We are currently seeking an experienced and motivated Counsellor to play a vital part in our team. In the position of Counsellor Cairns/Innisfail, you will provide counselling/trauma counselling and support of a professional standard to clients of The Salvation Army Counselling Service and to people affected by disasters. Key responsibilities of the position include: - Provide supportive counselling, initial crisis assessment, information and referral
- Maintain counselling documentation, records, reports and data collection
To be successful in the role, you will possess: - A commitment to the Christian faith and values, ethos and mission of TSA and an ability to offer pastoral assistance in day to day work activities
- Appropriate undergraduate or post graduate qualifications as required by a member organisation of ARCAP (PACFA or ACA) or by the Psychology Board of Australia, APS or AASW
- Willingness to travel to nearby rural locations regularly
- The ability to actively listen to and respond to people in crisis or people suffering trauma
- Ability to relate to people at differing levels of society regardless of their worldview or cultural herritage
- Strong problem solving skills
- Excellent written and verbal skills with a demonstrated ability to be clearly understood by distressed persons over a long period of time
- Demonstrated commitment to quality customer service and continuous improvement strategies
- Comprehensive understanding and commitment to the ethics of the counselling professions and monitors compliance
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team
- Sound computer literacy
- Current unrestricted Driver's licence
- High level counselling skills in the treatment of broad range of clinical issues including, trauma, depression, grief, anxiety, sexual abuse, spiritual concerns, relationship issues and other commonly encountered clinical conditions.
